Jukebox in the Sky

Have you ever received messages from your guides? We all have them, whether we are communicating with them or not; spirit guides, guardian angels, beings from other dimensions, or even loved ones who have passed on, who want to help us and are working on connecting with us. Our guides can reach out to us in many different ways; they can send us telepathic or inspirational thoughts, visit us in our dreams, show us symbols, or we can connect with them through a technique called automatic writing*(1), to name a few. It’s so much fun when you start to notice certain type of occurrences, symbols or some repeated way in which a guide is trying to reach you. I recently realized such a pattern that had been going on for a few months before I was able to connect the dots.

One afternoon, I was telling my husband about this, how a very specific line from a song would pop into my head, perfectly describing an insight I was having at that moment, or something that was unfolding right before me. And as I was talking to him about how marvelous the human mind is, to “come up” with the perfectly describing song at a given moment―it hit me; this wasn’t my doing at all! (Mental head slap). This came from a guide! A guide was sending these poignant messages to me. Then immediately, I heard the line from the hit song by The Jackson 5: “I’ll be there…” as in, “You can trust that I’ll be there giving you these messages to guide you on your way”. Of course, this caused laughter, happy tears, and lots of gratitude for this excellent guidance, not to mention the wonderful feeling of “I’m not alone in this”. There truly is help if we want it.

Another example from this guide’s repertoire came through one morning when I was in the kitchen making breakfast. The night before I had struggled with a bout of self-punishment, which is an old pattern for me, and on this morning I felt like I’d gained a new perspective on it and was at the upside of it, when a line from a Simon & Garfunkel song came through clear as day: “Hello darkness, my old friend…” I love my guide’s sense of humor! This was clearly a nudge for me to not take it so seriously, that I should embrace a more humorous outlook, and everything would be okay.

We all have many different guides available to us, and we can ask them for help, guidance and support at any time. However, we need to listen to their answers, which can come to us in a myriad of ways (including having our very own spiritual jukebox!) When we practice tuning in and raising our own energetic vibration*(2), the world as we know it will open up and become infused with color, richness, and elements we probably never even could have imagined.

Becoming a member of the Holistic Chamber of Commerce

Tuesday, January 15 2019, was the Thousand Oaks Holistic Chamber of Commerce’s luncheon meeting at Brendan’s of Thousand Oaks. The host location is a central point for members from Westlake Village, Moorpark, Camarillo, Newbury Park, Malibu and Thousand Oaks. Brendan’s has a great choice of lunch entrees, too. This meeting celebrated the 1st anniversary of the Thousand Oaks chapter, which had grown from four members a year ago, to 35 active holistic business professionals.

Camille Leon, the Holistic Chamber of Commerce’s founder, has created an organization for holistic minded businesses. All applications run through her office and are vetted, verifying those wishing to join, to have legitimate business credentials, legal/business licenses and have core holistic intentions. As I’m just now beginning this energy healing and channeling work, I supplied references from multiple friends / family, who did verify my capabilities. My current business already avails me a business license and insurance as a professional service provider, therefore I meet the requirements to become a member in good standing.

As new members join (me at this meeting), this organized business and public platform is expanded, and the chamber is here to promote our existing businesses. Here, a person can search for services in categories like nutrition, life coaching, yoga, meditation, and energy healing modalities. The chamber offers practitioners a place to find help when faced with specific questions in their practice, which provides all of us access to knowledge from our peers we might have missed working independently to fulfill our missions/callings.

At each meeting there is typically a guest speaker covering various means to promote and expand the business of working in the holistic field. Prior to this speaker presentation, one member leads our group in their personal method of grounding. Additionally, new members will be welcomed and given their certificate for their business office display. Four members joined this month’s meeting, and we all had a moment to present our practice when receiving our certificates.

As this was the 1st anniversary meeting, the president of our chapter, Gwyneth Doyle (pictured) spoke of the New Year and plans for the future. A lot of growth has transpired in the prior 14 months, and based on the members positive ambition, many more enjoyable growth and prosperity ideas are in sight.

After lunch, our anniversary cake was lit with candles, which broke open and spread out petals like a flower, all while playing a song. When our group of forty people were asked, “Who wants cake?” no one responded. At this point, I saw an energy swell within our group of very empathic members. A yellow energy rose and began to arc toward the candles on the cake, like moths to light. Seeing this, I announced, “I can see everyone here is wanting a slice but their empathic energies are stopping them from saying so.” A muted cheer followed, the cake was sliced, handed out and we spent time talking amongst ourselves about plans for 2019 and how we had dealt with recent challenges our Thousand Oaks community had faced.

A couple dozen of our members, myself included, had offered our services at a free healing event for Thousand Oaks in the prior month. The Best Western, siding the 101 Freeway just north of Moorpark Rd exit, hosted us in the conference room for a day. I offered my services (for the first time to total strangers) and set myself inside the conference room, in a chair, awaiting the opportunity to help. Linda Drevenstedt, a member of our holistic chapter, brought people to us in the conference room, which had reiki healers’ tables, energy workers tables, a massage therapist and card readers present.

Linda introduced me to those seeking help. Each of these individuals were covered in sorrow, negative energies and anguish; two even had tears in their eyes. I worked the energies around them, helping them to feel their positive power, to release the negativity encompassing them. With as much negativity that had transpired with the Borderline Bar and Grille tragedy, the two fires and all the loss encountered from these events, helping individuals recover, at least energetically, felt good. My ability is to see a person’s chakras, their core star, their aura and whatever is covering their true self identity. I am guided to work with people by channeling my higher sources. My visual, mental symbols and/or messages provide me a specific view of a person’s energy. With this clarity I can then provide information for my client(s) to experience their own power. Our power is based on self-love, which creates a positive protection from outside, low energy, negative sources. This is what I did with these people I met on this day.

During the segment for members’ recommendations at our anniversary meeting, Linda informed our group about all those that I had guided that day, and commented on how much better they felt with my aid. To Linda, they displayed relief, happiness or a more comfortable presence. Thank you, Linda! This is another affirmation that I am on the right path. I’m here to give people a way of getting out of negative energies. Being able to help someone release pent up, negative energy and open up to love, grounded emotions, clarity, and abundance, is such a wonderful feeling, of which I’m very grateful, and I’m eager to continue on this new journey.

Walk a mile in my empath shoes

I am just about to fall asleep, when a cocktail of emotions rushes through me. Suddenly, I feel a deep loss, a sense of despair and as if there is no tomorrow. I’ve been left alone, and I will be all alone―forever. I get up from the bed, walk out to the living room where my husband looks at me quizzically, and I demand he gives me all his online passwords. I just know that I am going to need them to take care of things. Is he leaving me? I’m confused. Intellectually, I know that he’s not going anywhere, but somehow it feels like I’m going to be without him from now on. His response, “I already gave them to you,” triggers the realization that I have, once again, taken on someone else’s energy. Somebody else’s emotions feel like mine.

On this particular occasion, the thoughts and emotions didn’t make sense and didn’t really fit into my life, so it was easier to clear out what wasn’t mine. This time, I simply had to become aware that, indeed, they were not my emotions, the energy wasn’t mine. I simply focused on my own chakras and energy, and the foreign energy cleared away.

Luckily, my husband is very intuitive and has a number of extraordinary abilities. He has helped me a lot and been a tremendous support in dealing with various energies. He sees my energy field quite clearly, and can immediately tell if a foreign energy is present. This has made all the difference, especially in the beginning when I started to realize I was an empath. Understanding what it means to be an empath, and realizing that it actually pertained to me, was a huge relief. There wasn’t anything seriously wrong with me after all, and I didn’t have to feel guilty or punish myself for not being able to just shake a certain mood or set of feelings. They weren’t mine to begin with!

On the night I felt the rush of emotions just as I was drifting off to sleep, the energy had come from a young woman in our apartment complex, and I might have picked it up because we had done laundry at the same time that day or crossed paths by the mailboxes. Sometimes latent energies come to the surface at night when I’m tired and my defenses are low. This was a millennial experiencing a break-up, and I had adjusted it to fit in as much as possible in my life, which in this instance meant an emphasis on the internet and being connected digitally. For me, this translated as a deep need to know my husband’s passwords, which was an obvious red flag that I was dealing with someone else’s energy. Other times, it can be much more subtle and difficult to discern what is really going on.

Lately, I’ve learned that this is how I have dealt with energies for years and years as a subconscious coping mechanism. I would rationalize the emotions with my thinking mind, make them ”blend” with my everyday life and thoughts, often berating myself as a result because I couldn’t make myself feel better or think in a more positive way. Needless to say, I would get upset with anyone telling me I had to “think positive thoughts” if I wanted to get anywhere. Ugh! They didn’t have a clue! But neither did I.

When I look back and take stock as an empath, I realize that food has been another coping mechanism. Any type of stress would trigger me, and something as simple as a slightly upsetting work email could send me towards the pantry like I was in a trance. Over the years I’ve labeled myself a comfort eater, food addict etc., whatever the current buzzword was, when in reality I was simply trying to deal with all the energy coming at me. Trying to suppress it, get rid of it, and stop feeling overwhelmed and more like myself again. Knowing that my food issues correlate directly with how I process energy is a game-changer. Of course it takes practice, practice, and more practice, but these days I am sometimes able to recognize a craving as an indicator of something happening energetically, instead of thinking I need a snack when I had filling lunch just an hour ago.

Feeling and dealing with energy is still very much a subtle sport. Oftentimes I am well into a defensive state before realizing that I’ve taken on foreign energies. I get defensive, as if I’m trying to pull up a draw-bridge around me, but it’s too late since the enemy is already inside. The instinctive reaction is to tend to what I’m harboring, meaning I want to be left alone and depending on the type of energy it is, I might get curt and react to others with a bit of a ”stay away from me”-attitude. Then I start talking down to myself in line with whatever the energy is about, and berate myself for not being able to change my state of mind to a positive one. Most times, the foreign energies are unwanted, not-so-fun experiences, but occasionally, I’ll pick up a happier type of energy, which can feel great and exciting, but isn’t mine either so it’ll have to go. It’s important for me to try to keep a balance and clean my energetic house on a regular basis.

Awareness is the first line of defense. To become aware of what’s happening when I don’t have my shield up, and all of a sudden, I feel completely different from what I felt just a few minutes or seconds ago. Becoming aware and realize that it is not my energy―it’s not me. The best thing of course, is to prevent it from happening at all, and I do a chakra clearing every day and put an energetic shield around myself. But sometimes I forget, and some type of energy pops in before I know it. When I do remember that I need to do it during the day, it’s a quick process, and I just need a few seconds to myself to focus inward and visualize energy (usually light/white) coming down from my eighth chakra. This was a big help for instance, when I was about to enter an exhibition of pre-Columbian artifacts, and started to feel this really weird, heavy energy creeping up my legs. I was out of there quickly, but thanks to a quick shielding, I could walk back inside and look at all the ancient artifacts on display.

Our world is made up of myriads of energy, which can come from anywhere and whenever in time and space, and navigating through all of this can be quite interesting for an empath. We are all on our own journeys, and as empaths, I think we get to have an experience that is a little bit deeper and richer. Especially if we choose to look at it that way.
